Lancer 29 M III
Description
The Lancer 29 Mark III (also commonly called the Lancer 29-3 or Lancer 29 Mk III) is a classic American cruising sailboat produced by Lancer Yacht Corp. in the United States from 1977 to 1981 (some sources note through around 1980). In 1982, it was renamed the Lancer 30 as part of the company's naming adjustments. It was designed by the renowned C&C Design team (Cuthbertson & Cassian) and is believed to have been built using molds purchased from or related to the C&C 30 (which had its own Mark I and II versions), giving it a strong performance heritage from a proven design. This makes it one of the better-sailing models in the Lancer lineup, with solid handling for coastal cruising. It's a masthead sloop rig recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass with wood trim. Features include a raked stem, plumb transom, skeg-mounted rudder for protection and tracking, and a fixed fin keel (with shoal draft option). Owners praise its balanced performance, good light-air capability due to a generous sail plan, and comfortable motion for day sailing, weekends, or occasional overnights—sleeping 4 comfortably. Exact production numbers for the Lancer 29 Mark III are not publicly documented in major sources (e.g., sailboatdata.com, Wikipedia, or builder records), as Lancer was a smaller production yard with limited runs across its models. Given the short production window (4–5 years) and its niche status before the rename to Lancer 30, it's estimated in the low hundreds—making surviving examples relatively uncommon on the used market today.
