Jouet Calife 23

Description

The Jouet Calife 23 (designed by Philippe Harlé and built by Yachting France, 1975–1981, ~450 hulls) is a delightfully quirky French trailer-sailer that combines surprising interior volume, lively performance, and a distinctive “pagoda” raised coachroof in a compact 23-foot package. With an LOA of 23′0″ (7.00 m), beam 8′2″, light displacement of ~2,870 lb (1,300 kg), and a swing keel (draft 1′0″ up / 4′7″ down), it features a tall 7/8 fractional sloop rig carrying 258 sq ft of sail (SA/D ≈ 20) that makes it genuinely quick and close-winded for its era—many owners report regular 6-knot averages and occasional surfing in a breeze. Below, the high freeboard and clever layout deliver standing headroom under the pop-top, four full-length berths (V-forward + two quarter berths), a proper enclosed head, and a compact galley—making it one of the roomiest and most family-friendly sub-24-footers ever built in the 1970s.
