John Dory Design 25 (18' Swampscott John Dory)

Description

The John Dory Design 25 (also known as the 18' Swampscott John Dory), designed by Iain Oughtred, is a glued-lapstrake plywood rowing and sailing skiff inspired by traditional New England Swampscott dories. This versatile daysailer/rowboat emphasizes lightweight construction, ease of building (no lofting required), and multiple rig options for varied use. It's ideal for solo or small crews in sheltered or coastal waters. Plans (6 sheets with full-size patterns, construction notes, and nine rig options) are available from the WoodenBoat Store. Skill level: Beginner to intermediate. Build time: ~240 hours. Construction: Over sawn frames; spars typically laminated Douglas-fir.
