Description

The Jet 14 is a 14-foot, high-performance, two-person racing dinghy designed in 1955 by Howard Siddons as a lighter, more responsive alternative to the heavier International 14s of the era. With a hard-chine plywood or fiberglass planing hull, 5 ft 6 in beam, 375–400 lb all-up weight, twin hiking wings, a powerful 135 sq ft fractional sloop rig (100 sq ft mainsail + 35 sq ft jib), and an optional symmetrical spinnaker, the Jet 14 is renowned for spectacular speed in 10–20 knots of wind, where it planes on every leg and routinely hits double-digit speeds downwind. Still actively raced in strong one-design fleets across the Midwest and Northeast U.S. (Class Association founded 1962, hull numbers over 1,300), it rewards skilled crew work with trapeze, aggressive hiking, and precise sail trim, yet remains forgiving enough for family sailing. Modern boats are built by WindRider LLC or home builders from class-legal plans; used Jets typically sell for $2,000–$8,000 depending on condition and upgrades.
