J/92s
Description
The J/92s (2005–2012) is the refined evolution of the original J/92, a 29′11″ high-performance racer-cruiser that J/Boats updated with a longer carbon-fiber sprit for bigger, easier-handling asymmetric spinnakers, a revised cockpit layout with under-deck jib tracks and lines led aft, a lighter Hall Spars carbon mast option, and subtle hull/deck tweaks that dropped displacement to ~5,400 lb while keeping the same 5′9″ bulb keel. Retaining the original’s SA/D of ~24–25 and D/L around 130, the “s” version is noticeably quicker off the wind (regularly hitting the mid-to-high teens in a breeze), more single/short-handed friendly, and still capable of respectable upwind angles with the 105–110% non-overlapping jib. Below, it offers the same practical weekend interior—V-berth, two settees, small galley and head—wrapped in a sleek, low cabin that prioritizes speed and fun over comfort. Widely regarded as one of the best 30-foot sportboats ever produced, it remains highly competitive in PHRF and still dominates many regional fleets; approximately 150 J/92s were built across both versions, with the “s” model comprising the later half of production.
