J/130
Description
The J/130, introduced in 1994, is a 42 ft 9 in (13.03 m) high-performance cruiser-racer that pioneered the concept of fast, luxurious, shorthanded offshore sailing in the J/Boats lineup. With a sleek carbon-fiber mast (67 ft air draft), low-wetted-surface hull, balanced spade rudder, and bulb keel (7 ft 6 in standard, 6 ft shoal option), she displaces just 25,000 lb and carries a powerful fractional rig with 865 sq ft upwind sail area (large roachy mainsail + non-overlapping blade jib), delivering effortless 8–10 knot reaching speeds and 200+ nm days in moderate breeze. The cockpit ergonomics are outstanding—winches and controls are led aft for single- or double-handed sailing, while the trademark J/Boats open transom and twin wheels make her a joy in heavy air. Below, the bright cherry interior offers a huge aft owner’s cabin with centerline queen, forward guest double, spacious saloon, and full nav station—luxury normally found on much larger yachts. Only 43 were built (1994–2001), and the J/130 remains a cult favorite among sailors who want to cross oceans quickly yet arrive rested.
