J/100
Description
The J/100 (2005–2010) is a 32′8″ ultralight, carbon-rigged daysailer that J/Boats built as the ultimate “big dinghy”: 6,500 lb displacement, 533 sq ft of sail on a tall, backstayless Hall carbon spar, a long retractable sprit for huge asymmetric spinnakers, a 9-foot open cockpit, and almost no interior—just two settees and a head. With an SA/D of 26, a D/L around 100, and a 5′9″ bulb keel, it planes off the wind in the mid-teens, points surprisingly well for a non-overlapping jib boat, and can be sailed single-handed from the cockpit. Owners universally call it one of the purest, most addictive sailing experiences available in a production keelboat; today it remains the benchmark for fast, simple, elegant 30-something-foot daysailers. A total of 169 J/100s were built before production ended in 2010, with early demand so strong that hull #74 was already on order by mid-2005.
