Islander 44
Description
The Islander 44 is a classic American blue water cruising sailboat designed by renowned naval architect C. William Lapworth (often called the "Lapworth 44") and built by Islander Yachts (later Tradewind Yachts) in Newport Beach, California, from 1962 to around 1971, with approximately 30–40 units produced. This 44-footer embodies the Cruising Club of America (CCA) era's emphasis on seaworthiness, elegance, and balanced performance, evolving into a shorter variant, the Islander 41 (1975–1983, with a chopped stern for easier slip fitting). It's celebrated for its fin keel/spade rudder configuration, which provides agile handling and stability, making it a favorite for Pacific cruising and offshore passages.
