Islander 32 Mk Ii
Description
The Islander 32 is a classic fiberglass production sailboat designed by Alan Gurney and built by Islander Yachts (formerly Wayfarer Marine Corporation) in Costa Mesa, California. Introduced in the late 1960s (around 1966), it was one of the company's early successes, with hundreds of units produced through the 1970s. It's renowned for its solid construction, balanced sailing performance, and spacious interior for its size, making it a popular choice for coastal cruising, club racing, and liveaboard use. The model gained a strong following on both U.S. coasts due to its seaworthiness and value retention. A variant, the Islander 32 MK II (introduced in 1976 and designed by Robert Perry), features a more modern hull shape with a reverse transom, extended waterline, and improved accommodations. Over 200 MK II units were built during its four-year run. The MK II is often praised for looking contemporary even today, though it shares the original's reputation for durability.
