Description
The Islander 29, designed by Joseph McGlasson—the visionary founder of Islander Yachts—and briefly produced in 1969 by Wayfarer Yacht Corp. as a compact, seaworthy evolution toward the more popular Islander 30, embodies the era's emphasis on sturdy coastal cruising with a no-nonsense fiberglass construction suited to family adventures or solo voyaging in a budget-friendly package; limited to a small production run before being supplanted, its solid hand-laid hull features a full long keel for exceptional directional stability and tracking, a skeg-hung rudder, and a narrow beam for easy trailering or slip-fitting. Measuring 29.08 feet LOA with a 23.33-foot LWL, 8.83-foot beam, shallow 3.67-foot draft, 7,800-pound displacement, and approximately 2,900 pounds of encapsulated lead ballast, it carries 392 square feet of sail area on a masthead sloop rig with aluminum spars (I=32.8 ft, J=10.8 ft, P=28.5 ft, E=12.5 ft) for balanced, predictable handling in moderate conditions.
