Islander 28
Description
The Islander 28 (often called the Islander Bahama 28 in its variant form) is a classic West Coast cruiser-racer designed by renowned naval architect Robert H. Perry and built by Islander Yachts (later Tradewind Yachts) from 1975 to 1985. With over 430 hulls produced (including ~25 Bahama variants), it's one of Islander's most successful models, blending IOR-inspired speed with practical cruising features for coastal passages, club racing (PHRF ~180–200), and weekend overnights for 4–5. Featuring a fin keel (standard or shoal draft), spade rudder for responsive handling, and a masthead sloop rig, it's stiff and stable (43% ballast ratio) in 15–25 knots, with lively light-air performance and a neutral helm that sails "with a finger touch on the tiller."
