Island Packet 465
Description
The Island Packet 465 and 495 are essentially the same center-cockpit cruising monohull sailboat, with the 465 (introduced in 2008) renamed to the 495 around 2013-2015 as part of Island Packet Yachts' model lineup evolution. Designed by Bob Johnson (founder and naval architect of Island Packet), both models embody the brand's hallmark "Full Foil Keel" philosophy—emphasizing seaworthiness, stability, and long-distance comfort over speed. Built in Largo, Florida, from hand-laid fiberglass with proprietary resins and a distinctive ivory gelcoat hull, they target liveaboard couples or families for blue water passages, coastal cruising, or extended voyages (e.g., circumnavigations via the Caribbean, Pacific, or Atlantic routes). Production of the 465/495 ended around 2015 due to economic factors and a shift to smaller models like the 439, with approximately 50-60 units built across both names.
