Description
The Island Packet 446 is a high-end American bluewater cruiser, essentially a refined evolution of the Island Packet 44 with enhanced rigging and sail options, designed in-house by Bob Johnson and produced by Island Packet Yachts from approximately 2005 to 2008 (limited run, fewer than 20 units built as a performance variant). At 44 feet LOA, it upholds the brand's "safety, seaworthiness, and simplicity" mantra, featuring a cutter rig, long keel for superior stability, and solid fiberglass construction suited for couples or small families on offshore passages, trade wind sailing, or liveaboard life. Its wide beam and raised coachroof yield exceptional volume—sleeping up to 8—with shoal draft for shallow bays. Building on the IP 44's legacy (1998-2005, 123 built), the 446 adds a taller rig for better light-air performance while retaining the encapsulated ballast and protected rudder for resilience. It's a "tortoise supreme," favoring comfort and security over velocity.
