Island Packet 420
Description
The Island Packet 420 is a robust, aft-cockpit cruising sailboat built by Island Packet Yachts, an American manufacturer specializing in blue water-capable, full-keel monohulls designed for long-distance voyaging. Introduced in 1999, it was designed by founder Bob Johnson (Robert K. Johnson) as an evolution of the popular IP 380 and 40 models, emphasizing safety, comfort, and seaworthiness with features like a full foil keel for stability and protection, a cutter rig for versatile sail handling, and high-quality construction for minimal maintenance. It's CE Category A ocean-rated, ideal for couples or small families on extended cruises, including transoceanic passages. The IP 420 builds on Island Packet's tradition of solid fiberglass hulls and spacious interiors, offering a balance of performance and livability. Production ran from 1999 to 2005, with approximately 140–150 units built, after which it was succeeded by models like the IP 440. Island Packet, founded in 1979 in Largo, Florida, and acquired by Hake Marine in 2017, continues to focus on durable, customizable cruisers under new ownership by Darrell and Leslie Allen since 2017.
