Island Packet 35
Description
The Island Packet 35, designed and built by Bob Johnson at Island Packet Yachts in Largo, Florida, from 1988 to 1994 in a production run of approximately 170 hulls, epitomizes the brand's hallmark full-keel cutter-rigged philosophy for indomitable bluewater cruising, fusing traditional cutter aesthetics with overbuilt fiberglass construction, shallow-draft gunkholing capability, and palatial liveaboard volume for extended offshore passages and couple- or family-centric voyaging. Constructed with a solid laminate hull employing vinylester resins for superior blister resistance, balsa-cored decks and cabin top, an inward-flanged hull/deck joint bolted every six inches, and a protected rudder/propeller tucked within the 6,000-pound encapsulated lead keel for tracking stability and grounding resilience, it measures 35.00 feet LOA with a 30.00-foot LWL, 12.00-foot beam, 4.50-foot draft, 16,700-pound displacement, and a 35.9% ballast ratio ensuring tenacious form stability in beam seas. The masthead cutter rig unfurls 650 square feet of sail area (reported; 554 ft² foretriangle/main) on aluminum spars (I=43.75 ft, J=15.17 ft, P=38.00 ft, E=13.50 ft) with roller-furling genoa, optional staysail, full-batten mainsail, and all lines led aft to the ergonomically deep cockpit featuring Edson wheel steering, raised coamings, and dedicated sheet winches for effortless short-handed operation.
