Island Packet 32
Description
The Island Packet 32 (1989–1998, 153 hulls) is widely considered the sweet-spot, “just-right” evolution of the legendary IP 31—keeping everything that made the 31 a bluewater icon while adding meaningful waterline, beam, tankage, and interior refinement. With a 35′6″ overall length (bowsprit + boomkin), 29′0″ waterline, 11′6″ beam, 12,800 lb displacement, 5,400 lb encapsulated lead in the signature full-foil keel (4′3″ draft), and a conservative cutter rig of 528 sq ft (SA/D ≈15.7), it delivers the same bulletproof seaworthiness and gentle motion that IP owners expect, but with noticeably better speed (regular 6.5–7 knot passages) and vastly more living space. Below, the extra volume translates into a truly palatial U-shaped galley, larger nav station, longer settees, a proper enclosed head with separate shower, and a huge offset double forward plus a real quarter berth aft—sleeping six in genuine comfort while feeling closer to a 36-footer. Built to the classic over-engineered Island Packet standard (solid vinylester hull, bronze everything, exquisite teak joinery), the IP 32 remains one of the most sought-after used IPs today.
