Island Packet 29
Description
The Island Packet 29 (1991–1996, only 74 built) is the rare, highly coveted “Goldilocks” model in the classic IP lineup—essentially a modernized and stretched IP 27 with the refined interior and deck of the larger boats, delivering legendary Island Packet seaworthiness and comfort in a compact, easy-to-handle package. With a 32′ overall length (bowsprit & boomkin), 25′9″ waterline, 10′10″ beam, 10,900 lb displacement, 4′3″ full keel carrying 4,800 lbs encapsulated lead, and a conservative cutter rig of 478 sq ft (SA/D ≈15.2), it is slow by modern standards but virtually unsinkable and fatigue-free on long passages. Below, the high-freeboard hull offers true 6′4″ headroom, a huge U-galley, proper nav station, enclosed head with shower, long straight settee, offset double forward, and a genuine quarter berth aft—sleeping six in real privacy while feeling closer to a 34–35-footer. Overbuilt to the classic IP formula (solid vinylester fiberglass hull, bronze everything, teak joinery), dozens have crossed oceans despite the modest size. Because production was so limited, clean IP 29s are among the most sought-after used Island Packets today
