Island Packet 26 - 2

Description

The Island Packet 26 MKII (often just called the "IP 26 MKII") is the refined second iteration of Island Packet's flagship pocket cruiser, designed by Walter Scott and Bob Johnson and produced from 1982 to 1986 (46 units built, following the 29-unit MKI from 1980-1982). At 26 feet LOD (30 feet LOA with bowsprit), it builds on the MKI's seaworthy full-keel heritage—derived from the Bombay Express 26—with enhancements for better livability and cruising comfort. This centerboard cutter emphasizes safety, simplicity, and shoal-draft versatility for couples or small families tackling coastal gunkholing, ICW runs, or light offshore hops in a solid fiberglass package. Key MKII upgrades include an improved L-shaped galley, enhanced nav station, better ventilation (additional hatches/ports), and refined interior joinery for a more yacht-like feel without sacrificing the "bulletproof" build. It's not a speed demon but excels in stability and ease, with a loyal following for its "go-anywhere" ethos.
