Irwin Citation 32
Description
The Irwin Citation 32 (1981–1984) is essentially the stretched, improved version of the successful Citation 30, built as Irwin Yachts’ direct response to the booming demand for roomy, shoal-draft centre-cockpit cruisers in the early 1980s. At 32 ft LOA (28 ft 6 in LWL), 11 ft beam, and only 4 ft 0 in draft (with an optional 5 ft 3 in deeper fin), she carries a light displacement of 9,800–10,200 lb (3,800 lb ballast) and a conservative masthead sloop rig of 510–530 sq ft—later boats were often delivered as cutters. Below decks she is pure 1980s American charter-boat volume: full 6 ft 4 in headroom, a huge private aft owner’s stateroom with centerline queen berth and en-suite head/shower, walk-through passageway with excellent storage, a second head forward, U-shaped galley, large dinette, and comfortable sleeping for six to seven. Roughly 150–180 were built before the mold was modified into the almost identical Irwin 34. Known for easy handling, surprisingly good light-air performance for her bulk, and the ability to float in ankle-deep Bahamian water, the Citation 32 became a favorite East Coast and Gulf Coast snowbird boat.
