Irwin Citation 30 (Tall Rig)
Description
The Irwin Citation 30 Tall Rig (1983–1986, ~100 built) was the high-performance version of the popular Citation 30 series, takes the same lively hull (LOA 29′11″, LWL 25′6″, beam 10′8″, displacement ~9,000 lbs) and adds a full foot of mast height plus a deeper fin keel (5′6″ vs. the standard 4′8″) to deliver genuinely spirited sailing in a very roomy package. With a taller double-spreader masthead rig (I ≈ 41′ vs. 39′, P ≈ 36′ vs. 34′), the Tall Rig carries about 15 % more sail area—total working sail ≈ 510–520 sq ft—pushing the SA/D into the 19–20 range and giving it a clear ½–¾ knot speed edge over the standard model, especially upwind and in light-to-moderate air. The extra 600 lbs of lead low in the fin also makes it noticeably stiffer: most owners report carrying full sail comfortably to 20–22 knots apparent. Below decks it retains the surprisingly big Citation 30 interior: private aft cabin with real standing headroom and its own companionway, huge U-shaped galley, full nav station opposite, saloon with 6′2″ headroom, and a proper forward V-berth with enclosed head—still one of the roomiest 30-footers ever built..
