Irwin 45 Ketch

Description

The Irwin 45 Ketch (built 1982–1985, ~40 hulls) was essentially a stretched, ketch-rigged version of the successful Irwin 43 center-cockpit platform, created for buyers who wanted even more interior volume and the heavy-weather flexibility of a mizzen without stepping all the way up to the massive Irwin 52. Key specifications: LOA 45′6″ (same sugar-scoop hull as the late Irwin 43), beam 13′6″, displacement ~29,000–30,000 lbs, ballast ~11,000 lbs in a shoal Scheel keel (standard draft 4′11″) or optional deeper fin. The conservative ketch rig (main + mizzen, total sail area ~950 sq ft, SA/D ≈14.5–15) is easy to shorten down and keeps the boat beautifully balanced when the breeze pipes up.
