Irwin 44
Description
The Irwin 44 is a fiberglass center-cockpit cruising sailboat designed by John R. Van Osten and built by Irwin Yachts from 1987 to 1991. Primarily offered as a sloop rig (with optional cutter or ketch configurations), it was engineered for coastal and moderate offshore cruising, emphasizing spacious interiors, stability, and ease of handling for two couples or small families. With a moderate displacement hull and options for shoal draft fixed keel or keel/centerboard, it's well-suited for protected waters like the Intracoastal Waterway, Bahamas, or East Coast passages, offering a balance of comfort and performance. The design addresses the challenges of center-cockpit layouts under 44 feet by prioritizing headroom, a low profile, and ample living space. Approximately 100-150 hulls were produced, making it a sought-after used cruiser for liveaboards or extended weekends.
