Irwin 42 Sloop
Description
The Irwin 42 Sloop (1989–1991, ~25–30 built) was the single-masted sibling to the rare Irwin 42 Ketch and the very last center-cockpit model produced before Irwin Yachts closed its doors. Sharing the same modernized hull (LOA 42′6″ with small sugar-scoop, LWL 36′, beam 13′4″, displacement ~25,500 lbs, ballast 9,600 lbs) and premium late-build features—vinylester resin below the waterline, high-grade cherry interior, solid rod rigging, and improved hull-deck joint—it carries a tall, fractional sloop rig with swept spreaders and a large roachy mainsail (SA/D ≈19–20), making it easily the quickest and closest-winded of all the big center-cockpit Irwins. Below decks it offers the same palatial layout: walk-in aft owner’s stateroom with centerline queen and en-suite head/shower, full-standing engine room/workshop, panoramic raised saloon with 7′+ headroom, restaurant-sized U-galley, and a proper forward guest cabin with second head.
