Irwin 37 Sloop
Description
The Irwin 37 Sloop (1971–1979, primarily the Mark I through Mark IV versions) is the single-masted sister to the well-known Irwin 37 ketch, designed by Ted Irwin as a roomy, moderately priced center-cockpit cruiser with surprising interior volume for its length. With roughly the same hull (LOA 37′, LWL ~30′, beam 11′6″, displacement ~20,000 lbs, ballast ~8,000 lbs) and the same shoal-draft keel options (standard 4′6″–5′4″ or optional deeper fin), the sloop rig gives it a larger, more efficient mainsail and genoa compared to the split ketch rig, resulting in noticeably better upwind performance and lighter-air speed while sacrificing some of the ketch’s heavy-weather flexibility and ease of short-handed sail handling. Below decks it retains the signature Irwin 37 layout: private aft owner’s stateroom with en-suite head, huge U-shaped galley, spacious saloon, and forward V-berth with second head—still one of the roomiest 37-footers ever built.
