Irwin 30
Description
The Irwin 30 (1975–1983, ~450 built) is a remarkably roomy aft-cockpit cruiser-racer that still ranks among the most spacious production 30-footers ever made. Designed by Ted Irwin, it features a moderate-displacement hull (LOA 30′0″, LWL 25′6″, beam 10′8″, displacement ~9,800 lbs, ballast 4,000 lbs) with the signature shallow Scheel keel (standard draft 4′0″) or optional 5′3″ fin, and a conservative masthead sloop rig (SA/D ≈ 15.5) that delivers predictable, forgiving performance rather than excitement. What sets it apart is the interior: a true private aft cabin with 6′+ headroom accessed by its own companionway from the cockpit, a huge U-shaped galley to port, full-size nav station opposite, a straight settee to starboard, a generous saloon table, and a large forward V-berth with enclosed head—offering standing headroom throughout and storage that rivals many modern 34-footers.
