Intrepid 28
Description
The Cape Dory Intrepid 28 (1977–1984) is a full-keel, heavily built 28 ft cruiser-racer designed by George Stadel Jr. as part of Cape Dory’s “Intrepid” series that also included the 9-Meter, the 30, and the 32. With a long keel drawing 4 ft 0 in, beam of 10 ft 0 in, displacement of 8,500–9,000 lb. (45 % ballast ratio), and a high-aspect cutter rig carrying 460 sq ft, she was marketed as a smaller, more manageable sister to the famous Carl Alberg-designed Cape Dory 30. Below she offers true standing headroom (6 ft+), a U-shaped galley, enclosed head, large hanging locker, and comfortable sleeping for five—luxuries rarely found in a 28-footer of the era. Approximately 170 were built before the mold was sold and the boat briefly reappeared in the late 1980s as the Robinhood 28.
