International 110
Description
The International 110 is a high-performance, 24-foot (7.3 m) one-design racing dinghy designed in 1939 by C. Raymond Hunt that remains actively raced today for its thrilling speed and responsiveness. Featuring a narrow, lightweight (approximately 925 lb./420 kg) planing hull, fractional sloop rig with a large mainsail, 110% genoa, and symmetric spinnaker on a retractable bow sprit, the boat is renowned for its ability to plane upwind in moderate breeze and reach speeds well over 15 knots downwind. With a crew of two (helmsman and forward hand who handles the jib and spinnaker), the 110 demands precise coordination and hiking strength, yet its strict one-design rules keep the class competitive and affordable; hundreds of wooden and fiberglass examples built since the 1940s still race in active fleets across the United States (especially New England, the Great Lakes, and California) and occasional international events. Often described as a “big dinghy” or “mini-12 Meter,” the International 110 delivers exhilarating performance and close to that of modern skiffs while retaining classic lines and a devoted following nearly 90 years after its introduction.
