Interclub

Description

The Interclub (IC Dinghy) is a classic 11 ft 6 in one-design racing and training dinghy designed in 1933 by Sparkman & Stephens for the Inter-Club fleet on Long Island Sound, with over 600 fiberglass hulls built since the late 1950s (primarily by Cape Cod Shipbuilding and later by Howard Boats). Featuring a hard-chine, planning hull, 90 sq ft Marconi sloop rig (fully battened main + self-tacking jib), and a retractable centerboard, it is one of the fastest, most responsive small keel-less dinghies ever created—routinely planes upwind in 12+ knots and hits double-digit speeds downwind—while remaining stable and forgiving enough for juniors and adults alike. Still actively raced in one-design fleets at Seawanhaka Corinthian YC, American YC, and several New England clubs, it is widely regarded as the perfect “big-boat feel” training boat that teaches roll-tacking, planning technique, and small-boat tactics in a strict, level-rating class.
