Hylas 44
Description
The Hylas 44 is a premium Taiwanese-built recreational sailboat designed as a high-end center-cockpit blue-water cruiser, celebrated for its elegant lines, superior build quality, and balanced performance for long-distance voyaging. Designed by German Frers, it was constructed by Queen Long Marine Ltd. (Taiwan) in collaboration with Hylas Yachts USA from 1984 to 1992 (some sources note U.S. market introduction in 1985 and continuation to 1993 with minor variants). During this 8–9 year production run, approximately 100–150 units were built, based on charter fleet data, resale market analysis, and Hylas owner association records (exact figures are not publicly detailed, but it was a staple of Caribbean Yacht Charters fleets). It's constructed of solid hand-laid fiberglass hull with a balsa-cored deck, featuring a fin keel and skeg-hung rudder for protected, responsive steering. The design prioritizes seaworthiness and comfort, with a beam carried aft for enhanced aft stateroom space, distinguishing it from the sleeker Hylas 42.
