Hunter Legend 45

Description

The Hunter Legend 45 (built 1985–1990, ~200 hulls) was Hunter Marine’s first truly large center-cockpit cruiser and the direct ancestor of the later Passage 450 and 45CC series. Designed by the Hunter Design Team under Cortland Steck, it stretches 46 ft 9 in LOA (44 ft 8 in LWL) with a very generous 13 ft 10 in beam and a moderate displacement of 24,700 lbs (9,800 lbs ballast). It was offered with a shoal wing keel (5 ft 6 in) or deep fin (6 ft 9 in). It introduced the B&R backstay-less fractional rig on a big Hunter center-cockpit boat, carrying a large roachy mainsail (~450 sq ft) and 135–150% roller-furling genoa (total upwind ~950–1,000 sq ft), giving surprisingly good performance for its size and era (PHRF typically 114–126). The raised center cockpit is huge, with wheel steering, a full walk-through transom (very early for a 45-footer), and one of the first production sugar-scoop sterns with integrated swim platform. Below, the interior was revolutionary for 1985: an enormous aft owner’s stateroom with true centerline queen berth and private en-suite head with separate shower, a spacious forward guest cabin with its own en-suite head, a massive U-shaped galley, proper nav station, and a bright saloon with over 6 ft 8 in headroom—genuinely sleeping six or seven in real comfort.
