Hunter 466

Description

The Hunter 466 is a spacious, performance-oriented cruising sloop designed by the Hunter Design Team and built by Hunter Marine in Alachua, Florida, from 2002 to 2005, with approximately 100-150 hulls produced. As an evolution of the popular Hunter 460 (with a slightly longer waterline and refined hull for better tracking), it features a masthead sloop rig, fin keel with spade rudder, and wide beam for enhanced stability and interior volume—ideal for family coastal cruising, charters, or light offshore passages. The aft cockpit seats 6-8 comfortably, with a walk-through transom for easy boarding, while the interior offers flexible 2- or 3-cabin layouts sleeping up to 8. Constructed with solid fiberglass below the waterline (Kevlar reinforcement forward) and balsa-cored deck, it's known for its sturdy build, good righting capability, and balanced handling, though its weight makes it a "reasonably good performer" rather than a speedster (SA/D ~17). Aimed at value-conscious buyers seeking Beneteau-like space with Hunter innovations (e.g., arch-mounted traveler), it earned praise for accommodations but mixed reviews on bluewater suitability—best for protected waters. Discontinued after the 2005 model year.
