Hunter 430
Description
Hunter 430 (built 1990–1997, approximately 180 hulls) is a rare and highly regarded center-cockpit cruiser that sits between the Legend 43 and the later Passage 44/450 in Hunter’s evolution toward serious offshore boats. Designed by the Hunter Design Team under Cortland Steck, it measures 43 ft LOA (42 ft 6 in LWL) with a generous 14 ft beam and a moderate-to-heavy displacement of 23,800 lbs (9,800 lbs ballast). It was offered with either a shoal-draft wing keel (5 ft 6 in) or deep fin (6 ft 9 in). It features the full backstay-less B&R fractional rig with sharply swept spreaders, a large roachy mainsail (~420 sq ft) + 135–150 % roller-furling genoa (total upwind ~900–950 sq ft), giving surprisingly good performance for a center-cockpit boat of the early 1990s (PHRF typically 114–126).
