Hunter 380
Description
The Hunter 380 (built 1999–2004, ~550 hulls) is the direct predecessor of the hugely successful Hunter 38 and remains one of the most popular and best-balanced 38-foot cruisers Hunter ever produced. Designed by the Hunter Design Team with Glenn Henderson’s input, it measures 37 ft 3 in LOA (almost 40 ft including the reverse transom and bowsprit) with a generous 12 ft 6 in beam and a moderate displacement of 16,000 lbs (6,500 lbs ballast). It was offered with either a shoal-draft wing keel (4 ft 10 in) or deeper bulb fin (6 ft 6 in). It features the signature backstay-less B&R fractional rig with swept spreaders, a large roachy fully battened mainsail (~360 sq ft), roller-furling 110–135% genoa (total upwind ~720–780 sq ft), and an optional asymmetrical spinnaker on a retractable carbon sprit—delivering genuinely good performance for a cruising boat (PHRF typically 132–150) and very easy short-handed sailing.
