Hunter 38

Description

The Hunter 38 (2004–2010, ~600 hulls) is widely regarded as one of the best all-round 38-foot production cruisers Hunter ever built and one of the most successful models in the company’s history. Designed by Glenn Henderson, it measures 38 ft 2 in LOA (almost 40 ft with the reverse transom and bowsprit) with a generous 12 ft 11 in beam and a moderate displacement of 17,674 lbs (6,900 lbs ballast). It was offered with either a shoal-draft wing keel (4 ft 11 in) or deep fin (6 ft 6 in). It features the signature backstay-less B&R fractional rig with sharply swept spreaders, a large roachy fully battened mainsail (~380 sq ft), roller-furling 110% jib (~750–800 sq ft total upwind), and an optional asymmetrical spinnaker on a retractable carbon sprit—delivering genuinely lively performance (PHRF typically 126–138) while remaining exceptionally easy to short-hand.
