Hunter 33-2
Description
The Hunter 33-2, commonly known as the 2011 Hunter 33, is a modern fractional-sloop cruiser-racer designed by Glenn Henderson and the Hunter Design Team, produced by Marlow-Hunter (formerly Hunter Marine) from 2011 to 2012 with over 600 hulls built—making it one of the yard's best-sellers. This 33-foot evolution of earlier Hunter 33 models introduces a refined hull with broader aft sections, a chine for stability, and premium features like in-mast furling and a saildrive engine, emphasizing ease of handling, spacious accommodations, and value for coastal cruising or club racing. With a shoal-draft keel option for shallow waters and a self-tacking jib for shorthanded sailing, it's ideal for families or couples seeking a "capable and perky" boat that balances performance (up to 7 knots in breeze) with comfort (sleeps 6-7). Hand-laid fiberglass construction (solid hull, cored deck) ensures durability, though it's best for protected seas rather than extreme bluewater. Launched during a market downturn, it succeeded by offering "vast amenities" at an entry-level price (~$120,000 new), earning accolades as a "sensational sequel" for its innovations like Seldén rigging and Corian counters.
