Hunter 33 Cherubini
Description
The Hunter 33 (often called the Cherubini 33) is a classic American cruising sloop designed by renowned naval architect John Cherubini and built by Hunter Marine from 1977 to 1983, with approximately 200 hulls produced. As one of Cherubini's early collaborations with Hunter founder Warren Luhrs, it embodies 1970s design priorities: a full-bodied hull for stability, a long fin keel for tracking, and a spacious teak interior for family cruising—making it ideal for coastal passages, club racing, or light offshore adventures in protected waters like the Chesapeake Bay. The masthead sloop rig with optional genoa provides balanced power, while the aft-cockpit layout seats 4-6 comfortably. Available in deep or shoal-draft versions, it's praised for its seaworthiness (high ballast ratio for stiffness) and roomy accommodations (sleeps 5-6), though its moderate displacement yields "reasonably good performance" rather than blistering speed.
