Hunter 25.5
Description
The Hunter 25.5 is a compact, high-volume trailerable cruiser-racer designed by the Hunter Design Team and built by Hunter Marine from 1984 to 1987, with approximately 500 hulls produced. Launched as an evolution of the original Hunter 25, it introduced wider beam, higher freeboard, and a walk-through transom—maximizing interior space and cockpit access in a 25-foot package. Featuring a fixed fin keel (no swing keel option), fractional sloop rig, and pop-top cabin, it offers standing headroom (6'2" with top up), sleeps 4–5, and is optimized for weekend cruising, club racing, and gunkholing. The B&R-inspired rig (swept spreaders, no backstay) simplifies tacking, while the outboard well keeps the prop clear of sails. Known for its forgiving handling, surprising speed, and family-friendly layout, the 25.5 remains a cult favorite in the used market—often called a “mini condo on the water” for its roominess and value.
