Hunter 25

Description

The Hunter 25 is a compact, trailerable fractional-sloop cruiser-racer designed by John Cherubini and built by Hunter Marine from 1972 to 1983, with over 2,000 hulls produced—making it one of the most successful 25-foot sailboats ever. Launched as Hunter’s first model, it introduced the brand’s signature high-beam, high-volume philosophy in a swing-keel or fixed-keel package, offering surprising interior space, stability, and ease of handling for families and beginners. At just 25 feet, it sleeps 4–5, features a pop-top cabin for 6' headroom, and excels as a weekend cruiser, club racer, or gunkholer in shallow waters. Early models (1972–1978) had a fixed keel, while later ones (1978–1983) offered a swing keel for 2' draft (up) and 5'4" (down), making it car-toppable or trailerable behind a standard vehicle. Known for its forgiving nature, low maintenance, and value retention, the Hunter 25 remains a cult favorite in the used market, often called the “VW Beetle of sailboats”—simple, fun, and everywhere.
