Hotfoot 20
Description
The Hotfoot 20 is a Canadian-built, high-performance trailerable sportboat designed by Steve Killing and introduced in 1983, produced in limited numbers by Hotfoot Boats until the early 1990s. Measuring 20 feet overall with a very beamy 8-foot 6-inch hull, ultralight displacement of just 1,050 lbs, and a deep bulb keel drawing 4 feet 6 inches (or optional shoal keel/centerboard version), it was engineered as a “go-fast” pocket cruiser that could plane off the wind and still offer a small but functional cabin. The fractional rig carries a large, fully battened square-top mainsail and a 150% genoa for roughly 240 sq ft upwind, plus a big asymmetrical spinnaker on a retractable bowsprit that pushes total downwind sail area past 500 sq ft. With its open-transom, self-bailing cockpit, hiking wings, and aggressive chine design, the Hotfoot 20 was often compared to a scaled-down Melges 24 and excelled in one-design racing on the Great Lakes and in British Columbia. Though only about 60 were built, it retains a dedicated following for its blistering speed, nimble handling, and surprising interior space (two quarter berths and two short V-berths) in such a lightweight package.
