Holder 20
Description
The Holder 20 is an American trailerable sailboat designed by Ron Holder and Dave Ulmann, first introduced in 1980 and produced by Hobie Cat (as the Hobie Holder 20) and later by Holder Marine until the early 1990s. At 20 feet 4 inches overall with a generous 7-foot 10-inch beam, it features a fiberglass hull with wood trim, a fractional sloop rig, a distinctive high-aspect fixed keel (or optional shallow-draft keel/centerboard version), a transom-hung rudder, and positive foam flotation for unsinkability. Known for its surprisingly spacious cockpit and cabin with sitting headroom, four full-length berths, and a small galley area, the Holder 20 was marketed as a compact yet comfortable pocket cruiser that can be easily trailered and rigged by one or two people. With a sail area of around 200 sq ft (main + 150% genoa) and a reputation for lively performance in moderate winds, it remains a popular, durable, and family-friendly trailer-sailer among sailors who want more interior volume than a typical 20-footer without sacrificing ease of handling.
