Holder 14 MK2
Description
The Holder 14 MK2 is an updated version of the original Holder 14, introduced in 1985 by Holder Marine as a modern, high-performance 14-foot daysailer/dinghy designed by Ron Holder and Dave Ulmann. Built of fiberglass with foam sandwich construction for stiffness and positive flotation, it weighs about 260 lbs and features a sleek, planing hull with a 5-foot 10-inch beam, a fully battened 95 sq ft mainsail, a 35 sq ft jib (total 130 sq ft upwind), and an optional 150 sq ft asymmetrical spinnaker flown from a retractable bowsprit. The MK2 improvements over the original Holder 14 include a taller, tapered aluminum mast, a deeper kick-up rudder, a higher-aspect daggerboard, and a self-bailing cockpit with under-seat storage. Quick to rig and capable of exciting speed (it planes easily and was often raced one-design in the 1980s–90s), the Holder 14 MK2 remains a favorite among sailors looking for a fast, responsive, yet forgiving two-person boat that can be car-topped or trailered behind even a small car. Production ended in the early 1990s, but active used-boat and class communities still exist.
