Holder 12

Description

The Holder 12 is a lively American fiberglass dinghy designed by Ron Holder and introduced in 1984, built by Holder Marine and later Vagabond Sailboats until production ended around 1990. At 11 feet 10 inches LOA with a 5-foot beam and roughly 140 lbs hull weight, it’s an easy-to-trailer, car-toppable daysailer intended as a slightly larger, more stable alternative to the Sunfish or Laser. It features a fractional sloop rig (sometimes sailed as a cat rig) with a fully battened mainsail of about 80 sq ft, an unstayed aluminum mast that steps in a deck collar, a kick-up rudder, and a daggerboard that draws 6 inches up and 3 feet 6 inches down. With built-in foam flotation, wide side benches, and a small forward deck, it comfortably carries two adults or an adult plus a couple of kids, and its simple, forgiving handling made it popular for sailing schools, resorts, and casual family use. Though no longer in production, the Holder 12 still has a loyal following for its durability, quick planning ability in a breeze, and classic 1980s one-design charm.
