Description
The Hinckley Sou'wester 51 is a semi-custom center-cockpit offshore cruising sloop designed by McCurdy & Rhodes and built by Henry R. Hinckley & Company in Southwest Harbor, Maine, USA. Produced from 1984 to 1993, approximately 15–20 examples were constructed, with a refined Sou'wester 52 variant (9 built) following in 1991 featuring updated deck, cockpit, interior, and rudder layouts. This fiberglass vessel emphasizes bluewater seaworthiness with a keel/centerboard for versatile draft (5'10" up / 11'1" down), skeg-hung rudder, raked stem, and reverse transom, paired with classic teak accents and a balanced masthead rig. Known for its stiff, hand-laid hull, spacious cherry interior (V-berth forward, U-galley, nav station, and saloon for 6–7), and moderate SA/D for efficient passage-making, it's a favorite for couples or families on long voyages.
