The Hinckley Southwest 48 (often simply called the Hinckley 48) is a classic offshore cruising sailboat designed by renowned naval architect William H. Tripp Jr. and built by the prestigious Henry R. Hinckley & Company in Southwest Harbor, Maine, USA. Produced between 1965 and 1975, only 8 examples were ever constructed, making it a rare and highly sought-after vessel among collectors and bluewater sailors. It was offered in both masthead sloop and yawl rig configurations, emphasizing seaworthiness, speed, and elegance with a long overhang design typical of Tripp's era. These boats are known for their skinny ends, generous sail plan for light-air performance, and robust fiberglass construction with a keel/centerboard setup for versatility in varying drafts.
