Hinckley Southwest 48

Hinckley Southwest 48

Description

The Hinckley Southwest 48 (commonly referred to as the Hinckley 48) is a classic offshore cruising sailboat designed by renowned naval architect William H. Tripp Jr. and built by Henry R. Hinckley & Company in Southwest Harbor, Maine, USA. Produced from 1965 to 1975, only 8 examples were constructed, rendering it a rare gem among vintage bluewater yachts. Available in masthead sloop or yawl configurations, it boasts a fiberglass hull with a fin keel and centerboard for draft versatility, long overhangs for elegant lines, and a generous sail plan optimized for light-air performance and speed. Celebrated for its seaworthiness, balanced handling, and teak-rich interior (sleeping 4–6 with V-berth forward, saloon settees, and U-galley), it's a Tripp signature blending racer-cruiser prowess with offshore comfort.
