Hinckley 38

Description

The Hinckley 38 is a classic 37'6" (11.4 m) recreational keelboat designed by Sparkman & Stephens (design #1903) as a versatile cruiser-racer, developed from the Hughes 38-1 and built collaboratively from 1968 to 1970, with hulls molded by Hughes Boat Works in Centralia, Ontario, Canada, and decks, interiors, and finishing handled by Hinckley Yachts in Southwest Harbor, Maine—resulting in just 28 meticulously crafted fiberglass hulls with wood trim that emphasize Hinckley's renowned quality and seaworthiness. Featuring a fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for responsive handling and balanced performance, it offers a generous sail plan (around 650 sq ft) for light-air capability and a moderate displacement/length ratio (around 250–300) that delivers spirited sailing with excellent stability and righting moment, making it suitable for coastal cruising or club racing while accommodating 4–6 in a cozy teak-finished interior with V-berth forward, saloon, galley, and nav station.
