Helms Dolphin 25
Description
The Dolphin 25, also known as the Helms Dolphin 25, is a trailerable fiberglass cruiser-racer designed by Jack A. Helms and initially built in limited numbers (fewer than 20 hulls) by Advance Sailboat Corporation in Parkville/Independence, Missouri, starting in 1968 before the design was refined and continued in larger production (over 300 units) by Helms Yacht Builders from 1973 to 1980. At 24 ft 10 in LOA with an 8 ft beam, 3,900 lbs. displacement (1,700 lbs. ballast), and options for a fixed keel (3 ft 6 in draft) or swing centerboard (2 ft up / 5 ft 6 in down), it features a masthead sloop rig with 285 sq ft of sail area for respectable performance (PHRF ~225) in coastal or inland waters. The accommodations are practical for its size: V-berth forward, enclosed head, convertible dinette to double, compact galley, and quarter berth, sleeping four with sitting headroom under a low cabin trunk.
