Helms 24
Description
The Helms 24, designed by Stuart Windley and built by Helms Yachts (later part of Watkins Yachts) in Florida from 1977 to 1983, is a nimble, trailerable 24-footer with a sleek flush-deck profile, a fractional sloop rig carrying 240 sq ft of sail, and a swing centerboard that gives just 18 inches draft board-up or 5 feet board-down. With a 3,000-pound displacement, 1,000 lbs. of encapsulated ballast, an 8-foot beam, and a surprisingly spacious cabin (V-berth forward, two quarter berths, and a drop-leaf table that seats four), she offers standing headroom under a pop-top (about 6′ with it raised), making her one of the roomiest and best-ventilated pocket cruisers of her era. Fast for her size, stiff, and easy to single-hand with all lines led aft, the Helms 24 became a favorite for weekend coastal cruising and club racing; production totaled around 450 boats,
