Gulfstar 60
Description
The Gulfstar 60 is a premium American performance-oriented bluewater cruiser designed by R.C. Lazzara (Richard C. Lazzara, son of Vince Lazzara) and built by Gulfstar Yachts in Florida, USA, from 1981 to 1986, with only about 15 hulls produced (some sources note a Mk II variant in the mid-1980s with minor refinements)—making it one of the rarer and more exclusive models in the Gulfstar lineup. This center-cockpit cutter (or sloop in some configurations) emphasizes seaworthiness, comfort, and capable sailing with a fin keel and skeg-hung rudder for balanced tracking and stability, solid fiberglass construction (balsa-cored in places, with known blister potential in early builds but many well-maintained examples upgraded), and a spacious, luxurious interior suited for extended cruising or liveaboard use (typically 3–4 cabins, multiple heads, full galley, and generous headroom/storage). It offers good performance for its size (moderate SA/D for steady progress in breeze, excellent heavy-weather handling, and a comfortable motion).
