Description
The Gulfstar 44 Mk II Sloop (also known as Gulfstar 44 Mark II Sloop) is the refined, performance-oriented evolution of the Gulfstar 44 series, designed by V.S. Lazzara (or Richard C. Lazzara) and built by Gulfstar Yachts in the United States primarily in 1983–1984 as part of the Mark II updates (within the broader 1978–1984 production run of ~105 hulls total, with Mk II examples being fewer and featuring improvements like enhanced interior joinery, better quality control, and optimized sailing characteristics). This center-cockpit masthead sloop emphasizes comfortable bluewater cruising with a fin keel and skeg-hung rudder for balanced tracking, stability, and a smooth, non-pounding ride in offshore conditions, combined with a spacious, well-laid-out interior (aft stateroom often with centerline queen berth, U-shaped galley, multiple heads, and excellent storage/headroom for liveaboard or family use)—praised as one of the best designs of its era for seaworthiness, aesthetics, and value, with solid fiberglass construction and a forgiving nature that handles rough weather reliably.
